AC3200 Table has no data problem

FredBro

New Around Here
My ASUS RT-AC3200 just blew up. I've lost all port forwards "table has no data"
It won't hold my DynDNS settings. It just reverts to the ASUS entry when I hit apply.
My NVRAM is completely used up. I was running OpenVPN server and it was working awesomely. That's no longer.

Can someone explain how to fix this?
I'm running the newest firmware 380.65
I did find a command "mtd-erase -d nvram; reboot" but when I telnet to the router and try to run it it says command not found. So if you can tell me what subdirectory I should be in, that would help.

Also if you can provide a link to instructions on moving OpenVPN cert so I have space, that would be helpful as well.
I'm pretty comfortable with this but sometimes I just need a point in the right direction.
I really appreciate any help provided!
It's pretty messed up...

Well now she's loosing my reset password and I can't log in unless I factory reset it then set it up. Then If I reboot, I'm locked out. Also the VPN doesn't work any more.
So I think it's time to buy a new router?

One of the limitations of the RT-AC3200 is it's limited NVRAM (65KB) in relation to it's features. And the AC3200 is a full feature router. What you have to realise is that it's NVRAM capacity is not enough to use all of it's features.

Your described symptoms suggest you have run out of NVRAM which is why AndreiV correctly provided you with the link to the NVRAM article.

I also have the RT-AC3200 and I watch my NVRAM usage like a hawk as it is a critical issue on this model.

I will bet that you have just experienced this problem because you've upgraded to 380.65. I have upgraded too. What I've noticed is that there has been a big jump in NVRAM usage between 380.64 and 380.65. Almost 0.5 KB. Doesn't sound like much, but when you are on the edge like we are, it's enough to tip you over the limit at which point the router starts to lose it's settings. When I was on 380.64, my NVRAM usage was 64600 bytes. Now on 380.65, NVRAM has edged up to 65100 bytes. Maximum NVRAM is 65536 bytes. That is getting a little too close to the limit for my liking, so I am thinking of reverting back to 380.64.

Check your NVRAM usage at the Tools tab and take note of what it is. Then two things you could do.

First try to turn off some of the features you may be using. Start with the least desired features like traffic monitoring and so on. Make sure you are not storing traffic history under NVRAM (choose default RAM). VPN usage is also a high NVRAM user. AIProtection next. And so on. I've also turned off the 2nd 5GH band which I wasn't using and that helped a bit. Watch your NVRAM after each feature you turn off. If you can get it down to a safe level, I'd stop there. In my experience, NVRAM use under 64600 bytes has been rock solid. You need a buffer as NVRAM use fluctuates over time.

Second thing you can do is to revert back to 380.64 which is of course not great since we lose the benefits of any security improvements. I am considering reverting because I've exhausted all the features I could agreeably turn off.

A last drastic step is of course the factory default reset to get rid of any redundant settings from earlier firmware. I have a huge list of DHCP IP assignments and port forwards, so I have been resisting this drastic step until I really have to.

Hope that helps.

It's not cool to advertise all sorts of neat capabilities then cripple the router by not loading the NVRAM up. I bought the router because of the capabilities they advertised.
So now I have to decide between fudging with this and trying to get the NVRAM level down by removing capabilities or getting a Synology RT2600AC router. I NEED VPN. I'm frequently away from home and need the connection back home.
