I'm currently running firmware 3.0.0.4.378_4585 and find that every so often I have to reboot in order to resolve extreme slowness on my iphone and ipad. I have 2.4 and 5ghz on separate SSID's. My ipad uses 5ghz. Last night it was painfully slow. Getting ~4Mb download on a 60Mb connection. Router reboot fixed it but I hate to keep doing that. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Should I update to one of the newer firmwares? Are there any settings I should tweak?

no , stay on the old fw and hope for a miracle.

The first thing you should do is update fw.

Using an iPhone 6+ as a 5gHz client off of an RT-AC68P running the latest ASUS firmware release (9135?) without issue. That said, I can remember running the 68P with the firmware you are using and didn't have any issues either. There are a variety of scenarios (all environmental) that can cause wireless degradation and I'd try to identify what may be happening in your case prior to applying random settings tweaks.
