Is there a way of testing, apart from my not getting any 2.4 signal, is the transmitter for 2.4 has packed up?

On two laptops I gat5G reception but no sign of 2.4.

Make sure to set it to a known-working channel such as Channel 1, just in case auto mode would be using an unsupported channel such as 13 or 14 (that can happen if you messed with the router's region, or the router wasn't purchased in the region it was intended for).

Also check the Wireless Log page. When a radio fails to start, it usually shows up on that page as being disabled.

A factory default reset might also resolve the issue if you have corrupted nvram settings.

Thanks for reply's. I have tried inSIDer and looked at logs (didn't really see anything) after doing a reboot. To my total surprise this after noon only 5G was found, this evening both are back. As it was two laptops not picking up other than 5G (and a sons smart phone) it looks unlikely the receiving devises were the problem. But both are now back and working!

That seems a case to Fox Mulder to me. :)

What FW you are using?

RMerlin, DD-WRT?

make sure the laptops wlan cards are set to pick up 2.4ghz too as dual band cards can be set to use either or both bands. inSSIDer cannot detect a frequency not used by the wlan card, it has to be enabled.

Hi yes have checked laptops and both are now at lest both. Merlin sorry I don't know what FM is.

Check the performance tab and see if the chip reports its temperature. Try some easy but non automatic settings meant for compatibility and make sure that the SSID is not hidden.

Thanks for help, but as its now working I don't think I am going to find past problems. If it comes back I will run through these to see if they are there as a problem. I realize intermediate problems are the very worst ones to sort and if it comes back I will get or buy another router to check that its my router.
