New Around Here
Greetings,

RT-AC68U, bought and using it in Germany (ccode=EU, regrev=13). As it appears ASUS is not utilizing the maximum possible Tx Power for the region it is running. In Germany 2,4 Ghz can use 100 mW and 5 GHz can use up to 1000 mW when indoors with DFS TPC.

I've set the ccode to #a and regrev to 0 in CFE but then DFS vanished from the web interface aswell as channels appeared which are not allowed in Germany.
My question is how can I max out the Tx Power without violating regulations? What parameters do I need to set?

Second question would be: ATEMODE. The US CFEs have it set to 1 but the EU CFEs and the CFE dump from my Router are/is set to 0.
What does this setting do?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Asus is following a kind "simple" approach by setting things to a "common minimum" when it comes to wireless. :oops:
Furthermore they are tightening the possibilities to changes things by the user (e.g. NVRAM settings) in the latest firmware versions, by loading the boot-loader defaults on reboot and also during run-time of the router - see discussion on overclocking here.

I personally gave up on fiddling around with the wireless settings and just added a 2nd router to my home (see footer) to cover all rooms (with ASUS default wireless settings)! :rolleyes:

With kind regards
Joe :cool:

There is a very simple way to over ride the CFE on all the new builds but i wont post this information because it will start a feeding frenzy and i will be flamed by the powers that be. I can say the info is already here on the forums if one can find it.

PM hggomes for his latest firmware link. (Which is based on RMerlin's work, btw).

This firmware unlocks all channels, power levels and gives the user the power to comply with the laws of the country they're in.

@joegreat
the common minimum is what bothers me right now. My old RT-N18U with asus-wrt had much better coverage than the AC68U with merlin-wrt. Unfortunately I can't setup a second Router for better coverage due to the cabling. Besides modifying the Router is not a big issue for me, as I'm learning more about WiFi stuff meanwhile.

@jim769
As I stated above, modifying CFE is my least concern ;)

@L&LD
thank you for your suggestion
