I'm running fresh tomato Version 2021.8 on Asus RT-AC68U C1 I want to use usb flash storage for storing log files however with the device powered on and inserting a ntfs formatted flash drive the router reboots and after doing so it loads the CFE flashing gui, if I select reboot it reboots and comes up correctly but the flash drive doesn't appear on the attached devices list. I have tried two different makes of flash but still the same issue is there a way to fix this?

Format your USB drive with default FAT32 or don't use Tuxera driver for NTFS. Use the alternative Open NTFS driver. I've seen this issue discussed on FreshTomato support forum. Will be fixed with the next FT release, I guess.
