Access USB drive that's connected to RT-AC68U in AP mode

  • SNBForums Code of Conduct

The rules are simple: Be patient, be nice, be helpful or be gone!

See if this method works for you:
1. Plug the external Hard Drive into the router and turn it on
2. Format the drive if prompted
3. You should be able to see the drive if you go into either Finder > Shared > [Router Name] or Finder > [your name]'s Mac > Devices > Network > [Router Name]. If you don't see it you may have to connect to your router's settings as directed in the manufacturer's guide or by typing http://192.168.1.1 in your browser window.

You can't. When the router is in access point mode most of the other services are disabled because it is assumed that the primary router will be handling those.

UPDATE July 2024: The above statement is no longer true. For many years now the USB applications (e.g. Samba and FTP) have also been available in AP mode.
