Trying to reach back bedroom in heavily dense 2.4ghz city neighborhood. Main router is N66U. Bought TP-LINK AV500 Powerline to run into back bedroom and hooked an old WRT54GL runnin dd-wrt up to it.

Set Linksys to Static IP and set DHCP Type to DHCP forwarder and gave it it's own SSID.

Is this correct? It "seems" to work ok for what I need it. Wired directly to Powerline reports 50mbps but wireless Linksys only comes out to 12-15 Mbps. Upload speeds wireless comes back 11Mbps.

The 54GLs are old hardware and by today's standard have anemic processors and G only radios. That being said you should be able to do better than you are reporting.

Follow the tutorial on this site for converting an old router to and AP. Try following the steps precisely and see if it gives you any better throughput.

If not then work on following the trouble shooting steps on this site for improving powerline connections.
