Hi,
Longtime lurker, first time poster.
For the last five years been using a Solwise NET-3G-3GWIFIMRW with a Huawei E169u 3.5G and while it's been stable 24x7 it's getting a bit long in the tooth. I upgraded the USB dongle to an E353, but the data throughout seems to be restricted by the old router (5Mbps) and not the dongle or the radio transmission; much faster connected directly to the laptop (10Mbps).
So I recently bought an Asus N66U router running the latest stock 3.0.0.4.376_1071 - not tried Merlins firmware.
The E353 was detected and setup correctly and have a steady blue light on the dongle - very surprised initally given some people on here have had lots of problems.
However I spoke too soon, the router seems to stutter every few minutes (web pages time out, DNS lookups fail) but the blue light remains on the E353. I can force it to repeat this behavior by running the Ookla broadband speed checker, which gives 10Mbps download but fails to start the upload test.
The N66U is stable and performs well when plugged into a standard cable modem.
There was an aussie forum post suggesting the E353 overheats when running at full speed...
So I was wondering if there was any forum members running the ASUS N routers with a 3g/4g dongle successfully?
Many thanks in advance.
