My stepson is a typical 14-year-old with no impulse control. My wife suspects he has been getting on his computers very late at night, disrupting his sleep schedule.
Quick note about our WiFi setup: We have Verizon home internet and I am using an Asus RT-AC86U with Merlin 386.12_6 firmware as the main router. I also have another RT-AC86U running as an AiMesh node with the same firmware version. (There were two Merlin releases after the one I have before they stopped supporting the AC86U, but none of the changes in the release notes sound relevant to my issue.)
I collected the MAC addresses of stepson's laptop and desktop computer and added them to my router's Parental Controls - Time Scheduling tab, making sure to plug in reasonable "off times" for each address. Then after I pressed Apply, ALL CLIENTS ON MY NETWORK immediately lost internet access, and it wasn't even during the scheduled off time. I have since confirmed that simply enabling this feature actually breaks Internet access for all clients on the network, even outside the scheduled off hours. (When I disable parental controls, all clients work again, but if I re-enable the controls, all clients break again.) This is clearly a firmware bug- and I think other people have complained about it in this thread.
My question: If you are currently using this feature (the one that blocks specific clients from internet access during specific times), would you please tell me which router you're using, and which firmware version you're running? I know my current routers are old and no longer supported, so I am interested in moving forward with routers/firmware where this feature is known to work.
