Finally, we have a a CPU that is fast enough for 100MB/s and fast enough for other operations! NAS has been stuck between either 16bit ARM Marvell Kirkwood CPU, while they are cheap ( compare to Intel ) does perform well at 1.2Ghz and beyond.

Then there is the Intel Atom, power hungry, yet very fast. However are extremely expensive for Appliance devices like NAS.

I always wonder why powerful Smartphone CPU aren't making into NAS. They are Dual Core and way faster. It it not that they dont have Gigibit Ethernet or SATA connection. Tegra have both. And slightly more expensive then Kirkwood but still much cheaper then Intel Atom.

Hopefully the A5 and iOS 5 will be powerful enough to be even a Home server.

Where do you get the news?

I know Apple quietly upgrade its Time Capsule (to 2TB/3TB) and Airport Extreme in recent days, but very little detail is given. Previous Time Capsule can have ~20MBps over GE network (http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/timecapsule/), I suppose the new version will have some improvement but won't expect too much.

The A5 is essentially just a Cortex-A9, so while by ARM standards it's a beefy chip, it's still not overly powerful in the computing scene. I wouldn't expect anything spectacular performance wise.
