New Around Here
I'm looking to get away from my current setup which is a Drobo attached to a Mac as it means I need to have the Mac on to use Apple TV. However, from my initial reading, many of the NAS devices seem to have limited iTunes functionality.

I'm looking for 4TB of storage, in a unit which can be attached to the network and will allow sharing of an iTunes library to Apple TV and other Macs. Support for playlists, audio, video and podcasts would be ideal.

Or should I just ditch the ATV, buy a Mac Mini and a big HDD to hang off the back of it?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike.

Sharing an iTunes library can be tricky. If you're using iTunes to play music, you don't really need an iTunes server on the NAS. All you need to do is move the iTunes library and files to a share on the NAS, then configure each iTunes client to use it by changing the iTunes Folder location to point to the NAS share.

Not sure whether Apple TV works similarly. But my guess is that it wants to talk to a "real" iTunes server.
