I have an iPad Air2, which supposedly supports 802.11ac. Haven't seen much evidence of that! Checking with WiFi Scanner on OSX, I've never seen the router actually put out an 80mHz signal on 5gHz. I do see one neighbor with a Belkin router with an 80mHz signal.
What, if anything, is the secret sauce? Maybe Apple has some work to do yet?
FYI, I've had to move the beacon channel to channel 48 due to interference.
I do get up to 100mbit/sec (but more typically 20-50) in my living room some 40 feet and 6 walls ways from my office, which I think is pretty good performance for 5gHz. Now I can use my iPad in the LR while the microwave is running!
(Even if I use the iPad in the same room with the router, no 80mHz.)
Do I need to use a high channel for 80mHz?
Maybe I need to just bite the bullet and get an Airport Extreme to put in the LR as an access point. Sigh. This all started when my LinkSys WRT-610N that I was using as an access point died. I thought I might replace both that and my DIR-825 with a single router that could cover the entire condo. I've more or less accomplished that, but I know it will not keep-up with the next speed bump from my cable provider. (Currently get 120mbit/sec down.)
