Asus AiCloud & Asus Router App or Not?

HWfreak

Occasional Visitor
With multiple Asus Wifi6 sites and distance between each, leveraging features like Asus AiCloud looks like a good idea...or is it just pulling your pants down and waiting for...it?

Also, for multiple sites, the Router App is also attractive just for keeping an eye on things, updating firmware, etc, but, how much risk and how worth is is it?
Just to be clear, I am NOT using the aforementioned app to setup my network (although it was handy to get unwilling routers to talk to me initially).

Any tips and tricks for stock firmware AX gen 59U, TUF 4200, and 89X devices?

Why not just use VPN? The firmware has options for VPN servers.

AiCloud has been the suspected intrusion point for several security vulnerabilities and malware vectors over the years. The most recent one...

I am using VPN on all outwards facing devices. Sorry I have much to learn but how does this assist with sharing files over multiple networks facing the internet re security and convenience? Please forgive my ignorance.

By setting up a VPN server on the router you can have remote VPN clients access the LAN behind the router in addition to the router's administration GUI. Basically using VPN would remove the need to use AiCloud's Cloud Disk and Smart Access features. Instead, when connected to the router by VPN, one would use what ever apps or programs they would normally use to access LAN clients when they were connected to the router on the local LAN.
