It is power cycling, wont stay on. Recommend a replacement please. I liked it, worked well for 3 years. 2700 sq foot home, 2 story, all items use wifi.
I would like a equivelant or better , reliabilith is key.
Right now this ones prices are close to 300, ouch, considering its a bit old.

RT-AX86U Pro is a popular around device with good reliability record. The updated hardware runs on newer 3006 firmware base so you'll find some new features not available on your old RT-AX86U. At this price it's a good replacement option.

When you get it - don't restore saved settings from your old router. The model number is similar, the devices look identical, but the hardware inside is different and runs on different firmware. Set the new router from scratch manually.

What I would do is minimal initial setup just to get to the GUI page followed by firmware update if available, reset to factory defaults again and setup manually after. I would use the same SSIDs and Passwords so I don't have to touch the clients. If some of the clients refuse to connect - delete and restore the connection on the specific client only. I would also use separate SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands for better client management. Asus Smart Connect may be hit and miss experience.

@Steve40th are you asking for the default credentials? I believe you will be forced to set those when you boot it up, thus, there are no 'defaults'. There may be some default SSID for set up via wireless, not sure, but that info would be given in the box.

What are you testing from ? LAN or Wifi ? USE LAN first to verify everything is working correctly. Then attack wifi issues.
Avoid the router speed test if possible. It can load down the router itself skewing the result.
Test from a PC - first - direct into the ISP router - do you get full bandwidth ? if Yes, connect PC to a lan port on the new router. Do same test to same server. About the same ?

Did you factory reset after updating firmware ?
which firmware are you on ?

disable QOS if on.

Just used LAN, and got about 820Mbs.
QOs is off.
I updated the firmware as soon as I reset it.
