Asus DSL-AC68U

Emil

New Around Here
Hey, I got the Asus DSL-AC68U and I was wondering if the Merlin firmware works for that too?

Also I have another issue, Asus says this isnt supported (first time I've seen this on a router) but I need to allow ICMP/ICMP6 to my router from the internet. No one can ping my IP address right now. Any idea howto make this work?

I don't support any of the DSL models.

ICMPv6 pings should normally work, since it's required by the RFCs, and I remember in the past Asus were properly replying to them.

Ok, still I find it strange that Asus doesnt have the option to allow ICMP. :p

It should already be the case by default, no need to enable it.

If you are trying to ping a windows PC via ICMPv6, the Windows firewall blocks these by default (all the IPv6 test sites will fail the ping test until you modify the windows rule)

I'm just having friends ping'ing my IPv4 IP from their home, and it timeouts. :p

ping x.x.x.x

Not sure if the DSL code is different, but did you check the Respond to ping requests from WAN option on the router Firewall tab?

What operating system on the client you are trying to ping? Any anti-virus or system protection suites installed? Some have strange ideas of what should be blocked.
Have you tried temporarily disabling any firewall or anti-virus suites?

Have you tried rebooting and then checking if the respond to WAN ping is still enabled?

Have you tried turning off modem/router for at least ten minutes (closer to an hour is better) and checking and testing again?

Are your friends behind any non-default network setups?

It has nothing to do with antivirus or such, since I'm just trying to get a ping reply from the router. The past DSL routers I've owned had no problems responding to outside pings. :)

How about doing a tracert to make sure it's not getting dropped before it gets to the router?

ping x.x.x.x

Are you talking about IPv4 or IPv6? These are two completely different things. IPv4 ping packets are dropped by default - you must enable the option on the webui to respond to them. IPv6 pings are replied by default, as required by the RFCs.
