I see two responses on ASUS site, both closed for follow up that there was issues. I was looking here as well for any input. Quick review of this specific update, nothing so critical that I can opt to wait for a more stable newer release...

nothing so critical

Nothing critical indeed.

I have expressed frustration to ASUS's ombudsman over quality of firmware. I know this stuff is SOHO level quality but certainly more testing should be taking place. I have patched HP Procurves, Aruba, CI$CO, Allied Telyson, numerous brands of firewalls & the like & no way have I seen such shoddy quality control. Yes you look at the security bugs it address's but it absolutely has to be stable. This is a major problem of applying security patches & why so many SOHO's remain vulnerable, because they are reluctant to patch given the quality & stability issues. This is not just this release, this is an ongoing & long time issue with ASUS & their routers, to a point where government agencies should start to apply pressure given that this gap in sufficient testing is leaving critical infrastructure at risk & many SOHO's all for the reason of ASUS's lack of quality control issues.

Indeed what is the point if the unit cannot stay up more than 8 hours? Which is worse the rebooting from the malware or the update? There is no reason for such shoddy testing of updates. It is this type of unprofessional integrity why no regular folk or SOHO's update anything & why critical infrastructure remains vulnerable over such a significant portion of the population shy's away or refuses to apply updates in a timely manner (routers, mobile devices, PC's etc.). See my other response below. we need a more secure & stable "internet", that means companies providing connectivity products must have some responsibility & accountability to ensure their products are stable & secure.

I found major issues with this firmware. I moved to Merlin.

Beware!
It would be helpful if you describe those "major issues" you had with the firmware so others are aware of them and came make an informed decision on using the firmware or not. And or so others can offer suggestions or workarounds.
