Asus Merlin on RT-N16

TheB1GDude

New Around Here
Hi,

I was having issues with DD-WRT and the Asus Merlin firmware was recommended to me. I flashed the RT-N16_3.0.0.4_374.43_0 build to my RT-N16, ran through the basic setup but for the life of me cannot figure out how to get the 2.4GHz enabled.

The firmware tells me it is disabled, I check the settings and make sure everything looks turned on (which it does) but my 2.4GHz is just not up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I would reset to defaults and possibly reflash firmware to the router again.

First; do a hard power cycle* (do not use the reboot option in the gui) after you have disconnected all usb devices from the router, wait 5 minutes or so after the router has booted up and then reflash the firmware.

*Hard power cycle: use the on/off switch if the device has one, or, pull the power cord from the wall.

OK ran through the above steps but no luck.

The WiFi just does not seem to be being enabled, the router connects just fine to my cable modem and the LAN works as expected. If I go to the Wireless - Professional tab it shows radio as enabled, I have also disabled the WPS and Wireless Scheduling but does not seem to matter everything shows as 2.4 being off.

Should I flash an earlier build maybe?

If a factory default reset followed by a power off / power on still doesn't work then there's a good chance the wifi is defective on your router.

But I was running a DD-WRT K3.X big build on this guy just this morning and I had wifi... I'm not saying it's impossible that the router isn't broken but it does seem unlikely... I will try the process once more.

Thanks.

Well I guess the impossible is more possible than I realized... I ran through the process again but the wifi light never comes on and the Web control panel never shows a Wireless Mac Address...

I've ordered an AC-66 in the hopes I can get the coverage and strength I need for my house.

Maybe I'll flash back to DD-WRT and see if my wifi magically comes back.

Thanks all.
