ASUS Router App for iOS (iPad) - Earliest Supported Firmware?

The iOS version of the ASUS Router app is now up and available for download on the iTunes store for the iPad even though based on the vertical only screen orientation, it looks like an iPhone app running on an iPad!. But whatever the case there, I have not been able to get it to connect to my 68U rev. B1 running Merlin 378.56_2.

After launching the app and clicking on SIGN IN at the bottom of the screen, I immediately get a pop up box that says:

NOTICE
Connection failed

Is this firmware version too old and lacking the proper ingredients required for this new iOS version of the router app?

I am currently stuck with 378.56_2 because of the infamous 2.4 GHz internet connectivity bug, so until a patched update becomes available from ASUS and then Merlin, I can't upgrade for any reason.

There was a thread about this app on here a while back but I was not able to find it on the first several pages of thread listings here.

Thanks in advance for any input on what's going on here. I figure its either not supported in this firmware version, or I have found yet another bug.

Hey g, i would check it for you to see if it works with me but i cannot find the app on the europe app store for now..

No problem Crusher. It just came out last week here I think, and it was in the "iTunes" store NOT in the AppStore where you would normally assume such an app to be listed for download.

Would be nice if the stupid thing gave you a useable error message as to WHY it can't connect to the router. What I posted above is word for word the error message that pops up. Nothing about the actual cause. :/

If you use a different port, or https, you have to configure that manually at the log in. Based on the Google Play description:

"Firmware version later than 3.0.0.4.378.9135"

Yours is based on 378.9177

It's available in Europe. Here are the links:

Thanks for the info Greg!

I have all my HTTP access set to the defaults and that works fine for me with a standard web browser and any of our Macs or iOS devices.

Only settings besides the user name and password is a slider switch called ADVANCED.

Under the ADVANCED TAB:

The HTTP port is listed as 80 which is the default and what I am using already. But... If I wanted to change that port number, there doesn't appear to be any way to do so. When I touch the port number nothing happens. The HTTPS side has its port set to 8443 and if I touch that port number the keyboard pops up to apparently allow you to change the port number if you want.

That's all the settings I can see here.

Any other ideas? Based on the version numbers you provided it looks as though this version of Merlin I am running on my 68U has the hooks in place to use this app.

Either I am missing something somewhere in terms of HTTP port assignment being wrong, or this app is just plain busted out of the box! :( With so little to go on in terms of settings, and absolutely no feedback or HELP options within the app, I'm about ready to toss this thing into the trash can and be done with it. :(

I don't see an iPad version, only iPhone.

It works, but doesn't fit on the iPad screen correctly. Part off the screen is cut off, pretty much useless on the iPad.

I guess the operative word here is that its an iOS app, so it does launch on an iPad but as you say, the screen is locked in the vertical and it lacks other standard view options a real iPad app would have, but it does come up in iPad only searches. That is actually how I found it originally.

What part of the screen is cut off? I didn't notice any partial text or cut off menus anywhere along the edges of the sign in screen. ?? I guess you are referring to the screens you see when you are actually logged in?

I can't get past the SIGN IN screen on my iPad Mini 4, and so far, no one has been able to tell me why.

The log in screen displayed whole on the iPad. It is after you logged in that all the screens got cut in half :).

YIKES! You weren't kidding! lol! ;)

Looks like this current version needs a ton of work based on that screenshot! Glad I didn't spend too much time trying to get this to work.

Actually, more like figure out why I can't log in to my brand new 68U running Merlin 378.56_2 ???
