New Around Here
Hello experts, I am having some problems with my ASUS RT-AC3200. It wont tether to my Samsung S8 or Moto Z4 but will w/ an old Moto Z Force. I don't really want to use the Moto Z Force since it's old and has bad battery life.

When I connect them, I can see the Android phones listed as a USB modem in the routers config page, but the AC3200 will not get a WAN IP from either Android 9 phone, the Moto Z4 or the Samsung S8.

When I plug any phone into the router, their "USB tethering" option becomes available indicating a connection but clicking does not get a response from the router.

Any ideas if I am doing something wrong or maybe the combination of newer just doesn't work? The Moto Z4 and Samsung S8 are both Android 9 and every option I can find is set the same as my old Moto Z Force so I am stumped.

Known problem with newer mobile firmware, you will find some threads reporting this issue.
Workaround to use a LTE-stick instead which is known to be compatible.

Thanks for the reply! Glad to know the fault is not with me or these 6 beers :)

This may be a stretch, but do you know of any other ASUS products or other router manufacturers that has a better track record for dealing with newer mobile phones ? Sorry it's just that I desperately don't want to go back to using this old android phone full-time just because it works as tethered. But then again, even it's Mifi Hotspot feature seems to work more reliably than this lame Moto Z4 that is brand new.
