I have had the ASUS RT-N56U for 2-3 years now and it has been an amazing router. My girlfriend got her own apartment and i was setting up her network for her. Since i love my ASUS RT-N56U so much and it has never really gave me any trouble from day one with anything, i figured let me buy another ASUS router. I purchased the ASUS AC56U router and despite reading that people having some issues with the 2.4ghz band (a new firmware upgrade was suppose to fix this issue) i still went ahead with the purchase.
I installed the router a couple days ago and didnt do the firmware update right away. I started using the router on my iPhone 5S and every now and then the connection would just stop working. In the middle of watching a video on the 2.4ghz band, it stopped and took about 10 seconds before starting back up again. I went ahead and did the firmware upgrade and was praying it would fix this issue.
After playing another video after the firmware upgrade it did the same thing. I switched over to the 5ghz band and everything seemed to be fine. I ran a speedtest from speedtest.net and on the 2.4ghz band it was getting 3-5 Mbs. on the 5Ghz band it was getting around 15Mbs. I went back to my house where i currently use the ASUS N56U and ran the same speed test on my iPhone again and was getting 28Mbs on the 2.4ghz band. We both have Comcast Cable and pinged the same location ( i know a lot more factors could go into this but just saying).
My next step is I am borrowing an apple airport extreme from work to put in place of the ASUS AC56U router and testing the speeds and stability with that.
Anyone have similiar issues and any comments on this situation? Is this a known issue with the router? Any help/comments would be appreciated and sorry for this length but i am pretty thorough when it comes to things like this.
