New Around Here
I've been having problems with my new RT-AC68R/U router. I've flashed Tomato Shibby 1.28 (I had the same problems with the latest stock firmware).
First, inSSIDer shows sporadic and random drops in signal strength with the 2.4 GHz band (5 GHz band has been working great). I plugged an old Linksys WRT54GS2 and saw similar drops but not as frequent. I get similar results regardless of channel and channel widths. Here's a screenshot of what inSSIDer shows:
I've also had device's RSSI plummet once every couple of days on the 2.4 GHz band and the devices internet access fails to work. Every device drops to-90 dBm or worse. Devices on the 5 GHz band continue to work fine.
Finally, connection speeds sometimes start sucking on the 2.4 GHz. When this happens, I see Tomato reporting severe interference levels and really crappy rates (5.5 Mbps at times). Even when performance is acceptable, the interference level is almost always severe and around 72 Mbps. I do sometimes see similar interference levels and poor rates on the 5 GHz. I've tried turning off all devices on that side of the house with no improvement to interference.
Just a little more information from inSSIDer on other routers in the area:
