Asus RT-AC68U VPN is not hiding my IP

New Around Here
Hi - I am having an issue with my new Asus RT-AC68U. I have set up the VPN and the DDNS and am able to connect to the VPN both from my main PC (Windows 8.1) and my ipad.

However when I'm connected via the VPN on my PC or ipad and then I go to www.xmyip.xom or any other similar service it shows my public ip address. Obviously the point of the VPN is to hide this.

I have tried googling for hours and any different settings but cant get it to hide my IP - any suggestions?

Who are you using as your VPN provider?

I get a VPN assigned by my VPN provider instead of my local ISP using either Strong or Astrill.

If you are running the VPN on your router to secure connections between your network and remote PCs then your public IP will be the IP assigned by your local ISP. If this wasn't the case I don't know how data packets sent to you would ever find you.

OK noob alert (for my next statement)....I'm not using anyone as a VPN provider. I thought that's what the router did?

What you have set up is a very secure method to communicate between point A - B hence name Virtual Private Network.

To change your IP you will need to use a VPN service or a IP cloaking service.

Q: Cyberghost Questions

Ok thanks Captain, yep I understand now and got it working with cyberghost.

Sorry to thread jack! I Also have a RT-AC68R W/Merlin's Alpha 4 Firmware. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the OPVN File i upload to the OpenVPN section is having complications! On Cyberghost's website I also cannot find much info on my router but rather info on Tomato Firmware and DD-WRT Firm + Specially made OpenVpn routers for Cyberghost's VPN service. I want to be able to just have it broadcasting to all connected devices instead of a App or config per device(Headache....) Can this be done with there service, and further note i paid for a year of service for one client through a promo. Thank's guys, Live long and Prosper! :D

It probably can be done with this VPN provider as it possible with most others. Your subscription for a device can be made to work on a router.

Adapt the instructions for DD-WRT and look at the FAQ on your providers site.
