Asus RT-AC86U and ExpressVPN firmware

Does anyone know if flashing this router with the ExpressVPN firmware for the RT-AC87U will do any damage? The reason why I want to try it is because for some strange reason, I can't access Netflix through the router with stock or Merlin firmware while using ExpressVPN. But if I use their app and use cellular data, I can get on Netflix. Another strange thing is that I swear I was able to access Netflix through my router setup yesterday, with Merlin firmware, but I can't today! I did a factory reset and setup the VPN client from scratch again but still doesn't work. This is why I was going to try flashing ExpressVPN's firmware. Will it brick?

The RT-AC86U has a completely different CPU from the RT-AC87U. Firmware designed for one won't run on the other.
