Asus RT-AC87U - Tx power adjustment question

Loff

New Around Here
On my AC87U, changing the value in "Advanced Settings > Wireless > Professional > Tx power adjustment" does not seem to have any effect on the WiFi output strength. Whether I set it to 1% or 100% or anything in between, I see basically the same dBm reading on my Netgear WiFi Analytics app (it's the only tool that I have). The situation is the same for both firmware 5134 and 6065.

I know very little about the subject. Is this the correct way to set/measure the WiFi output strength? Is my unit defective or have I missed other settings? My intention is to turn the WiFi output down to a "practically sufficient" level. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I think a reboot is needed

Just leave it at 100% Asus routers are now all capped at 80mw that level is already plenty low.

Why leave it at 100%??? It should work, if not, then we need raport to asus suport/RMerlin for fix this problem. I also want heve possibility to adjust Tx power.

The TX power has always been questionable on almost all Asus and Merlin firmware many have reported there is very little or no change at all. You really dont want to go much below the cap of 80mw unless you stay in the same room as the router.

On Asus routers, the Tx power level slider is only a 'suggestion' for the router. What power it will output depends on the internal (closed source) part of the firmware and the environment the router and client are trying to communicate in.

hggomes firmware offers a more direct connection to the Tx power levels.
