Asus RT-AC88U as second dedicated VPN router

New Around Here
Hi,

I have Asus DSL-AC68U as my primary ISP router. I am trying to connect to it Asus RT-AC88U ( Asuswrt-Merlin firmware) as a second dedicated VPN router. I am following this guide:
http://www.techradar.com/how-to/networking/how-to-build-a-dedicated-vpn-router-1300740
My question is about step 13 in this guide: Forwarding the VPN router. The instructions are a VPN router with DD-WRT firmware ( and mine is with Merlin firmware). So, what is the way to configure forwarding on my Asus RT-AC88U ( with Merlin and not DD-WRT) ? Is it the same or I should do something different ? It is essential for me to enable the devices from two LAN networks to talk to each other !
Thanks in advance.

No one to propose a solution ?
I didn't have a chance to look at the instructions you are working with but a straight forward setup with very few steps would be:

1. Double NAT your AC88 behind the DSL AC68.
2. Setup the VPN on the 88 and using policy routing determine which devices use the VPN and which connect using the ISP direct.
3. Connect only IoT devices, streaming devices and other gadget or devices to your AC68 that don't need to communicate with your printer, NAS, other PCs etc. If you need to prevent geo blocking then you could connect your streaming devices to the router running the VPN. You should also run your guest network on the AC68 to fully segregate it from your home's LAN.
