Asus RT AC88U Merlin router Serial Number

CorpusCallosum

New Around Here
Hi Guys,

Having problem using Asus and Merlin. Actually not an exactly problem but necessity.

Our ISP is assigning PPPoE password dynamically from central by using router model. They are checking Password, MAC and Serial Number of modem/router.

I upload custom firmware to my new ASUS router. Found the password by debugging my old ISP provided router. I also found old MAC and SERIAL number of my old device.

Now i need to change the serial number of my new asus via custom firmware. Is that possible by using merlin somehow? No such kind of option or information on the web panel.

Maybe something somewhere in operating system ?

Thanks for the help.

There is no serial number... The MAC is the only "unique" identifier at the software level.

For DSL - look up TR-064, section 6.5.1.2 specifically - urn:dslforum-org:service:DeviceInfo:1

There is a fixed serial number for the device - it should be printed on the label to facilitate customer self-service, but it can also be discovered from the WAN side out of band...

We're not talking about modems here, we're talking about routers.

This, obviously, would apply to DSL modems that are attached to the WAN directly - a router that talks to a DSL modem via PPoE or whatever, shouldn't matter...

Exactly.

So, once again: there is no serial number in the router's software. The MAC is the only unique identifier.

i noticed maybe used wrong phrase. I need to change serial number because ISP is checking the serial number of modem over pppoe. I mean the serial number of ASUS modem with the serial number of the stupid modem ISP gave me. I found DSL Password username but could not use ASUS because of checking serial number of modem as well.

Is there any workaround for this?

thanks for the help

As Merlin pointed out the RT-AC88U doesn't have a serial number because it isn't a DSL device.

If you told us what your other router is and how you extracted the serial number we might understand your situation better.

Ok let me put it this way,

my internet provider has given Huawei hg253s. The configuration that brings you internet is coming from ISP automatically by checking, MAC address, PPPOE User/Pass and serial number of modem. Thats why it is not possible to use different modem/router with this Internet Provider.

I have Asus RT-AC88U. I have learned my PPPOE password by sniffing the mirror port. Changed the MAC address, but still i have to find a workaround for replicating serial number for device in order to have internet access.

I know the serial number of Huawei. But i could not figure out how i can use this serial number on ASUS to fake ISP. Thought maybe someone has an idea to do so

Thanks

Is see that the HG253s has TR-069 support, so presumably this is where it is using the serial number in it's authentication. If that is the case then you're out of luck as the Asus doesn't support TR-069.
