ASUS RT-AX86U Network Share Problem

I have an Asus RT-AX86U running Merlin. I just got a new laptop and I can't connect it to my network share. It's working fine on the old laptop.

Enable sharing is on, device name is set, I have a workgroup name set that I also set on the laptop, protocol is SMBv2, simple sharing yes, force as master brower no, set as WINS server yes.

I then have a user set up with r/w access to some folders on the drive.

The device name appears in windows network section, but if I click it, it just says windows cannot access \\RT-AC68U-CR (yes, that's the name because I didn't want to change it from my old router). On the other laptop, if I click that, it shows all the folders on the drive.

Same error if I go to run and put in \\192.168.50.1

What am I missing here?

Does the laptop have, or been updated to, Windows 11 24H2 by chance? If so there is a known issue with Windows 11 24H2 having trouble accessing network attached storage devices. Some suggestions to fix the issue at the following links:

Also, if running Windows, ensure the Network Profile for the active network adapter is set to Private and not Public.

I am on Win 11 24H2, but so is the laptop that can connect. Network and Sharing Center says I'm on a private network.

On the laptop that cannot connect, try the suggestions in those links if you haven't done so already. That SMB signing issue seems to be hit or miss with some running Windows 11 24H2 not having an issue, while others do.

This worked! https://techcommunity.microsoft.com...-with-smb-in-windows-11-24h2-may-fail/4154300

I first tried Set-SmbClientConfiguration -RequireSecuritySignature $false -Force in powershell, but, without a reboot, that didn't work, so I guess that didn't fix it. Then I followed the process in the other link and I'm in. I didn't think this should have been so hard.

Thanks all!
