New Around Here
Hi
I'm new here from Taiwan.
Thanks many people here provide some good advices about routers.
But I want to ask about my N66U's firmware.
What is RT-N66U best Firmware? 3.0.0.4.270?276?
My 2 N66us are 270 and 276 worked so fine.
I wonder if n66u needed to upgrade new fw?wifi range is important for me!

below pic is some of my ASUS routers collections~

Thanks in advaned.

The latest version from Asus's website works well for most people, at the expense of a slight reduction in signal strength compared to the 3.0.0.4.27x versions.

Yes, the same wireless drivers from .27x are in the latest firmware by RMerlin, in the RT-N66U "experimental" section of the download page. The firmware images that have "sdk5" at the end of their names are the ones that you're looking for. I'm using RMerlin's 3.0.0.4.374.33_0-sdk5 on my RT-N66U as we speak, and it is doing great. No difference in wireless performance from the .27x firmware.

The last couple of versions of RMerlin's firmware even has an IPv6 firewall, along with other added functionality on top of the Asus stock firmware. Take a look at the sticky thread in the Asuswrt-Merlin subforum to see where to download from.

Give it a try.
