And again no ipv6 firewall I guess Asus don't take security very seriously.

the potential security issue fix in AiDisk is that they don't allow to set limitless access when configuring AiDisk with wizard anymore ?

I haven't looked at the fix, but I think (based on what various news sites posted) they simply made it so the default option is not to allow anonymous connections anymore.

So yes, in essence it's mostly meant for users doing the initial configuration of their router. Any existing user only has to go back in their settings and ensure that anonymous access is not enabled.

Anyone tried the new firmware yet? Curious if this release will improve wireless performance over previous stock versions.

I haven't tried it yet but very tempted. I loaded .2050 and it seems to be running well in my home network application.

So far better than I had expected

Tried the new firmware today. Performance wise it helped boost the dl stability speed of my crappy DSL modem so I'm quite happy with this Asus firmware so far, been running for about 3-4 hours now and still stable.
Haven't tried anything related to the new security mods though.

I loaded 3.0.0.4.374.2239 on RT-N66U January 17th 2014, the day it came out. It's been working fine for me. 5GHz wireless seems a little more stable but that's mostly anecdotal. Seems iOS devices don't like 5GHz very much no matter what router I test with, not sure that has anything to do with Asus. Would be curious to know if Merlin feels the issues with the newer Broadcom Wi-Fi drivers have been resolved by now.

I guess most people know that Wi-Fi on tablets and smartphones is not comparable with Wi-Fi on laptops. Speedtest.net explains.

Asus might have only partly fixed it in the official release, but the only way to fully recover all the lost performance is to run the driver in "engineering mode", something that I can do with my firmware, but the official firmware probably can't.

There's a good chance that at least with this new driver, stock firmware might be "good enough" when compared to most other routers now.

Merlin can you please explain what EM mode does different then the standard? Is EM mode a band aid or a true working solution to sdk5 ? Thanks as always !! Forgot to add im using the N66U

Loaded .2239 on my N66U and N66W and both are doing what I need them to do with 100% signal strength everywhere on my property.

EM = Engineering Mode. I don't know any actual details, I suspect this actually puts the driver into a "debugging/development" mode that might ignore certain limitations/standards, and isn't intended for released products. So no, it's not a real fix, which is why the official releases isn't using it.

If it's not intended for released products how were you able to compile a firmware that uses it and also able to release it to the public? Also do you plan to implement it in your future builds seeing it works very well as a solution to SDK5 for the N66U ?

Same reason why third party firmware developers are also offering firmwares with an option to bypass your router's region, and manufacturers aren't: I don't sell routers.

It's already implemented in my builds since 374.38_0.
