ASUS values their dear customers.
Linksys does not even shows the counterpart E4200 V2 anymore on their support site, oh wait that was long ago my reason to move from Linksys to ASUS. Like many manufacturers of routers and consumer electronics Linksys issues one or two firmware upgrades then drops the product.

Wow.
They're still updating ~15yr old hardware that's running a fairly ancient (but proven) kernel? That's thinking like Boeing

Different people, different experiences.
My RT-N66U moved about 3 years ago to my sons apartment where it sits behind the apartment building supplied network socket (double NAT).
As you know one of the top 3 priorities in young guys life is good WiFi, well he never complained about his WiFi.
Yesterday I upgraded the RT-N66U to the latest firmware and it is back in place to serve his iPhone, Windows computer, MacBook, Play Station, Smart TV, his friends phones when they visit.
So, piece of junk?

I'm glad it worked for you..yes still a piece of junk.

Old Boeing or New Boeing?

Old Boeing: Engineers, planes that flew

New Boeing: MBAs, bean counters, and "cost cutters": why bolt that cabin door to the frame, bolts are expensive!
somewhere between the two. It's why I'm transitioning to Airbus (mikrotik)
