I’ve recently purchased a Asus RT-n66u and loaded the latest version of Merlin and some questions:-

  • Standard Asus firmware within router, on WIFI 2.4GHz set to 40MHz both laptops was connecting at 125MBps after Merlin upgrade now only 65MBps?

  • My Broadband bandwidth is 125MBps down and 11MBps up, repeatable checked at speednet website, if I enable QOS within Merlin firmware and set my upload and down speeds accordingly rechecking broadband bandwidth I get 87MBps down and 11MBps up! If I switch off QOS and recheck broadband bandwidth back to 125MBps down and 11MBps up?

Which version of merlins firmware are you using?

I use version 3.0.0.4.372.30_3 and 40Mhz 2.4ghz with channel 13 works perfectly.

When i upgraded to 3.0.0.4.372.31_0 when it came out i had issues with not being able to use 40mhz with channel 13 and when i reverted to 30_3 it started working perfectly again

Try using 3.0.0.4.372.30_3 and see if that helps. I think it will.

Many thanks xaviercharles for your response, currently running Merlin 3.0.0.4.374.32_0. changed the 2.4GHz channel to 13 all works now back to normal. Any one have thought's with regards to QOS issue?

Qos is not compatible with hardware acceleration (unfortunately). I'm not sure if that's the problem though, since I don't have that fast of an internet connection to compare. ;)

Is your connection PPPoE? I think you have to use latest Asus stock firmware to get the PPPoE acceleration. Merlin's RT-N66U build is using the old driver and is sort of a frankenstein build because so many people had problems with the new Asus/broadcom driver. And by doing so, I think it crippled the PPPoE acceleration, but not 100 percent sure on that. Merlin can probably give you more details on that.

Without HW acceleration, the max speed supported is around 150 Mbps.

The pixie dust build (SDK6) brings back PPPoE HW acceleration.
