Asus Zen XD4S suddenly not connecting via WiFi backhaul

I have had 1x of my 2x AIMesh nodes (Asus xd4s) units suddenly stop connecting via wireless backhaul. I have removed and reset both nodes and connected them up via ethernet cable to the router to bind them. I have then tested disconnecting the ethernet cable and rebooting the node. I can see the unit connects via 5ghz backhaul. Then when I unplug and move the node just to the next room over as a test the device simply sits with a blue flashing light and never connects to my network. I am dumbfounded as I confirmed it worked when i disconnected the cable and I have removed the node several times and attempted to reconnect.

I rolled back to the previous XD4S_3.0.0.4_386_69038-g4ba860e firmware with the same result.

To reset the node I have been pulling the power cable, holding WPS button down and plugging power in until I see the red flashing light and set it up. Is there another way to hard reset these devices?

My main node is an Asus AX86u running the latest Firmware: 3004.388.8_4

Any thoughts on resolving this? I cannot hardwire the node currently unfortunately and need it to be wireless backhaul.

For reference my other XD4S node works perfectly fine.

So if I plug the device into my router and say to prefer 5ghz backhaul it connects. When I move the device to the other room it no longer connects.. 🤔

Admittedly I use wired BH (on two XD6 units) but I’ve seen others recommend, as I do, to leave all the settings shown in the attached at default, ie off.

Essentially don’t force a specific backhaul or preferred connection frequency etc. if you already have these as they are in mine, then the latest Stock FW, reset as you have done (worth doing it in the GUI AND then using the WPS method), is the only other thing I can suggest.

I place the node right beside my router and it is receiving OK signal strength on 5ghz. If I move it 5m on the other side of the room, I have 0 wireless connection on this particular node. I think I will return this product tomorrow sounds like a faulty unit.
