my network is in a double-nat situation (cable modem with another nat upstream). and because the default ddns configurations on asus-merlin do not externally check the wan ip, all dyndns functionality on my network fails. i would specifically need a working xxx.asuscomm.com ip to get remote access via asus' iphone app to my router.

does anyone have an idea how to write a custom ddns script with external ip check to get a valid xxx.asuscomm.com ip?

What is the upstream NAT? Are you in control of it?

If it's a wireless router/modem combo from an ISP it's be easiest to just call them and have them set it for bridging and eliminate the double NAT. So it would just act like a modem and not a router/firewall.

Don't suppose you ever came across an answer to this question? I've run into the same situation and was hoping to keep the asuscomm.com hostname setup at the client site.
