Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.354.29 Beta 1

Works well except for the 5ghz and intel issue but that's on asus end .

The 3.0.0.4.354.29 Beta 1 does have a minor cosmetic issue with the 5ghz dotted line in the guest network.


Very stable no crashing:D

I wish it were only Intel-based adapters. 5GHz in general just seems to be generally borked.

My Killer Wireless 1202 (Qualcomm/Artheros chip) basically won't connect to it at 40MHz. SOMETIMES I can get it to work, but it's extremely unstable and generally disconnects within minutes. Even on 20MHz it's unstable. It won't disconnect, but if I try to stream anything it either loses connectivity temporarily, or occasionally will just stop the stream entirely.
 
I am testing this build on RT-N16 and I experience a major instability of the WiFi signal when I start the WiFi Analyzer app on my Android Phone - the signal just goes up and down like crazy and disconnects every few seconds. When I stop the program, the signal gets back to normal.

Router: RT-N16.
Wireless Mode: Auto.
Channel bandwith: 40 MHz.
Control channel: 2.
Security: WPA2-Personal / AES.
Android phone: Xperia Mini ST15i.

@ merlin : speaking of beamforming and Ai radar , i recall that in the older Fw there was a tab with AIradar, now i dont see it, im not on the latest build (270. 24).

so is the feature enabled by defaut and hidden from the user?

No idea. As I said, I have no idea what AiRadar actually is in the current FW. My guess is, AiRadar is a generic marketing term under which Asus includes several techniques - beamforming might be just an additional one in that series of range-enhancement techniques.

This is all internal to the wireless driver, so only Asus would know what AiRadar actually consists of.
 
Hey, been lurking on these boards without an account for quite a while but finally registered to post here :D

I installed this build on my RT-N16 but it would not recognize my WAN connection. No matter what I did or how many times I hard reset the router, even took the time to disconnect my modem but it wasn't happening. Tomato and ASUS Stock FW both get WAN IP immediately.
 
Still no Wireless Driver Fix

Its been a month now and all kinds of new builds and products coming out, has ASUS maybe moved on and have no intention of fixing the wireless driver for the now aging RT-N66U? (I've seen it happen before)

I have held back on 270.26b because the wireless stability at long range is the number one reason i bought the ASUS router.

I would like to thank Merlin for all the great work you have done with these routers, too bad you can't fix their driver.

Hi,

I had similar problems/effects on Android until I analyzed my neighborhood regarding the WLAN networks around and which channels are free.

After finding the less busy channel and going back to 20 MHz things are working stable. See also Bye Bye 40 MHz Mode in 2.4 GHz for details! :rolleyes:

Hi,

I seem to have a new bug in this version :

I have quite a few entries in my nat-start and firewall-start scripts to add entries to IP tables on startup.

They have been working fine for all versions so far.

In this version they appear to be applied twice in the firewall section (so everything is working, there are a lot of duplicate entries!)

I have seen in NAT section some of the entries being duplicated, sometimes none, sometimes a few of the entries but not all - it varies (different reboots)

Everything is working other than additional overhead to process the duplicate entries but something is wrong!

Hi,

You can try to flash over the older firmware, but it would be better (saver) to clear NVRAM before flash, to allow the new (hidden) default values from the newer firmware to take the lead. ;)

Actually I am running a router where I have not cleared NVRAM before flashing firmware version 354.29, without errors. :p

There is a thread where somebody tried to find out the new hidden values, but I am not sure if this correct (as I had different values and even variables).

Ok , thanks! Sounds like some new features have been introduced since the last time I flashed my n66u, lookin forward to Merlin's latest. (Heh, just need to dust off the "flashing rt-n66u" part of my brain)
 
Hey, just wanted to say I still can't get WAN IP on my RT-N16 with this build, but I did flash it with the dwrp build to use in repeater mode.

I now have a RT AC66U running this build as my main router with the RT-N16 running as repeater. It is working very well.
 
Does anybody have issues with the Setup Wizard using Media Bridge mode?
I'm using an AC66U, and after a restore factory defaults it will do something funny:

1. Ask what mode to setup -> Select Media Bridge
2. It will ask to join a network and password from the wireless scan.
3. After joining that (5GHz) network in step #2 it will then follow up by asking to setup a wireless name and password.

It uses the name and password input in step #3 to broadcast a new 2.4GHz network off of the bridge.

I go to Client status page and it will show those settings, whereas 5GHz will say "Change the network that RT-AC66U will connect to." as expected.

Last time I thought it was a one time glitch, but I was having issues with my network and then reset everything again.
I think this is why my network is having problems ever since going up to 354.28 beta... the first time I set it up, I reconfigured 2.4GHz to match my AP router. My bridge was broadcasting the same thing and tricking my clients.

Hi,

You can disable the chatiness of DHCP Server via the web interface "LAN / DHCP Server" Option: Log DHCP queries = No! :)
