Routing instability seen in 376.44

Anyone who tried 376.47 can comment if this issue still persist or is gone in .47? thanks

Anyone else with 3G problems, or am I the only one?

Well, my USB 3G modem doesn't work in Merlin, though it did in latest factory fw. I started a thread about it here with no bites yet; maybe you can help me with that.

I am brand-new to the ASUS and Merlin; don't even know yet how to access the logs you cited in your earlier post here.

I'll figure this thing out eventually...

How wifi signal strength?Maybe strong like 374.43 build?Or weak like 376.44 build? And maybe work huawei e3276s modem with this version?

I am currently on the latest stock firmware..heard great things about this firmware..
I am a noob with these..
I currently am not using any advanced features nor have disks attached.
I just have the static dns setup, wifi setup, connected to my modem..
I heard that you should do a factory reset after installing this firmware..
What does this entail? Would I be forced to setup the static dns's and wifi setup again?
Would it be possible to skip the factory reset if I am not using the advanced features?
Also how does the latest iteration compare against the 374.43 fork version in terms of wifi range?
Please provide any help! TIA

This upgrade didn't go smoothly at all. Eventually had to do a factory reset with a 30/30/30 reboot.

It appears to be working now but some of the pages only partially refresh and it just hangs... only way to get it to stop is to select "x" on the url bar. then refresh the page again.. very annoying... any ideas?

Forgot to mention Asus AC68R.. I was running the previous Merlin release. and I still have the page refresh issue...

Yes it is very possible to skip the factory reset. If you were to factory reset the best way to do this is to turn your router off, wait 30 seconds, turn your router back on while holding the wps button at the same time and wait 10 seconds until you let it go. The choice to factory reset or clear the nvram, which is the same thing, is your own. If you notice any problems with the firmware then I would recommend clearing the nvram before assuming something else is wrong.

I personally always clear my nvram every time I switch firmware builds.

You forget to mention what type of router you have? Most of the Asus routers use the wps button to clear the nvram though. You will have to reset all your settings if you factory reset or clear the nvram. Clearing the nvram results in setting the router back to factory default settings and will clean up any bad settings.

Thanks a bunch! I have the Asus N66U.

Mine is, for lack of a better term, "unstable" (see my post above). This morning, I did a reset back to defaults, set up using different SSID's and the wireless radios are still erratic. Hardwired speeds are terrific but a wifi signal meter looks like a yoyo with extreme peaks & valleys from off the chart strong to very weak even, standing right next to the router. Both radios are weaker overall & especially noticeable on 5GHz where I dropped from a full signal to poor on in a small room adjacent to the router maybe 15-16 feet through a single, uninsulated, interior wall.

I'm going to have to think about which way to go next. 376.45 ran well for me and I know many here have excellent wifi results with the ". 43 fork" version. All my stuff is working now it's just the signal fluctuations and range are reducing throughput. I'll probably wait a few days & see if this crops up for others & if so, see what solutions arise. If I can get my wifi stability & efficiency back I think I'll hang with it a while next time.

RMerlin can you help me please. I tried 47, then 45, then 42, but only finally 35_4 allowed my Novatel MC760 USB 3G modem to work with your firmware on my RT-N66U. I didn't try all the builds between 35_4 and 42, but it appears that somewhere along-the-way support for the Novatel was dropped.

I wonder if you could please look into where/how this was left behind and hopefully restore my 3G modem to "working" with the latest builds of ASUSWRT-Merlin.

Thanks.

BTW the Novatel does also work with the newest ASUS factory firmware 376.2524.

Use Eset antivirus maybe? If so, put in an IP address exclusion for your router's IP under the protocol filtering section of the Advanced setup.

cant seem to find RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_376.47_0.trx in the downloads?

You need to download the zip file and extract it before you can flash the router.

RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_376.47_0.zip is the name of the file you should be looking for.

5GHz LED Behavior

Hi All,

I just bought a new RT-AC87 router and I noticed that the 5GHz band seems incredibly slow. I thought it was a dead router so I exchanged it and I have the same issue. I noticed that the LED for the 2.4GHz band flickers rapidly like a normal indicator light would. However on the 5GHz band, the indicator flashes about about 1-2 times per second. Is this normal behavior or do I have another busted unit?

Is the 5 ghz band wifi signal still acting up for the RT-N66U? Ever since the 376.44 build and each release since, my 5 ghz wifi signal strength has been terrible for some reason. At 20 feet I was getting all the way down to 2 bars on all of my network devices. I have heard this happening to other people as well on the forums. On the 374.43 merlin build I didn't have this issue.

This issue seems to be only significant to the rt-n66u router, which is why I am asking if anyone has noticed if this issue is fixed or not with this most recent build release?

No improvement for 5ghz with this release. The wireless driver is the same and probably will never change.

It took me less than 9hrs to have a problem and then go back to the most recent SDK5 firmware.
