asuswrt-merlin and bell-aliant fibreop - update firmware or not?

david Lewis

New Around Here
It's been almost 3 yrs since I switched out my Actiontech R1000 to an ASUS RT-SC68U using asuswrt-merlin on bell-aliant fibreop. It took me so long to figure it all out and has continued to work without problem, so I haven't had the inclination to update the firmware.... (currently on Firmware: 374.43_2 (Merlin build))

I hope this is the correct forum to answer a couple of questions...

1. Will the current firmware work with bell-aliant fibreop including PVR / IPTV?
2. Is there a way to save the GUI settings from my current setup and restore to the new firmware setup?
3. Am I likely to see any benefits from upgrading the firmware anyway or should I just stick with what is currently working?
4. Last time I did this I had to 'release the actiontech IP' and clone the Actiontech MAC - is this still necessary?

Thanks in advance
