It seems that Windows 10 is the first Microsoft OS to offer a native mDNS service. Unfortunately it's quite broken, and leads to seriously increased network traffic. (Described below)

This led to high CPU usage on my RT-AC56 along with crashes due to the logging activity in Avahi. It would also grind my PC to a halt.
I "fixed" this by completely disabling Avahi on the router and AP. Also, these random waking printer problems appear resolved by disabling Avahi.
The real fix for the problem in Windows 10 is apparently in an "Insider" release, that I have yet to apply (See Below).
