I had been trying to find the solution to unpredictable slow opening of samba files on my N66U with notepad++ for some time. Finally I found it.
Avast>>Settings>>Active Protection>>Customize link under File System Shield>>Exclusions
Add the location of notepad++.exe with r w x checked (they may not all be necessary have not tested that). For me it was-
C:\\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\Notepad++.exe
Don't forget to click add and ok!
