New Around Here
Hey guys I am super new, did a search however didn’t find anything.

I just had a roomie move in and he is on our wifi and helps pay the bill, however we are on rural wireless internet and it is a little spotty.

I have been trying all the QOS settings, searched for Merlin firmware, tried guest network etc.. but nothing is working for me. With a 25mb plan having myself gaming my wife watching Netflix and now my roommate using amazon video/ downloading. He seems to top out my bandwidth which is mediocre at best (I have a very spiky ping as well which is not new and I cannot figure it out)

How do I limit him out? I want an equal share and a nice smooth flow instead of the jumpy crap it is at the moment.

And how do I get rid of the spikes, I’ve been having this issue for ever, it’s quite annoying seeing the little network symbols always lit up while gaming .

thanks in advance l!

How exactly did you set up QOS?
Which firmware do you have installed?

I think RMerlin may be coming up with a firmware version for your AX58U in the future.

well I’m using the latest by asus firmware, this baby is replacing my ac3100 and so far amazing results, as for qos I’ve tried them all and have bandwidth limiting set up, but it isn’t working at all, limit set to 5 and still my roomie is using 15-20 mbps. Adaptive and traditional haven’t worked either. Plus the spiking pings which I have no clue what is causing it.

Also wondering if anyone has any ideas or possible resources to help me currently on the asus factory firmware, I am at a loss.
Like its getting super frustrating trying to game (Call of duty, Rainbow 6 and other shooters) my ping is all over, from 99-1000+ on bad days, good days it hovers around 125-150.
I don't know if it has anything to do with my ISP, basically its wireless sent over tower to a dish on my roof, ISP just recently upgraded and is now feeding the tower with a dedicated fiber line, but my package is 25 down 5 up. I shouldn't be having these issues in my opinion.
That being said I don't know if my other options would help at all, one provider has a 5mbps package over dsl/cable, the other is the same with sat, and my isp is slowly working towards fiber this summer to the house.

Not to ask a stupid question but have you set up bandwidth limiter for all of his devices, especially the ones that are used for streaming? Can you check when he is streaming, what devices are doing so? Also is he on the Wi-Fi or does he have any devices wired in? The reason i ask is that I have used bandwidth limiter and and seems to work very well on the wireless network but not on the wired network. Wired devices don't seem to get throttled correctly.
