Hey all, I've been having an issue for over a year and I'm hoping someone here can help.
In January of 24, I purchased a ZenWifi AX6600 XT8 2-pack direct from ASUS to replace the eero system that my ISP started charging for. I have a 1Gbps fiber connection. The units are set up with one connected to the modem in my living room, and the other set up with wireless backhaul and fronthaul, which has moved across several rooms in my house, and is currently in the basement probably 10feet directly underneath the main unit.
The problem is that any laptop that is connected to the Wi-Fi has horrible download speeds. With desktops, laptops, and gaming systems connected via ethernet to the main unit in the living room, we get speedtest results of 900-1000Mbps up and down. iPhones and Fire tablets connected to the Wi-Fi get about 600-700Mpbs. My wife had an HP Omen 17 laptop from 2015 or so that had some damage to the hinge, so it was stationary, and when connected to the Wi-Fi, it was getting something like 1-2Mbps down, but still about 400Mbps up. Last fall we purchased her a new HP Omen 16 with the same sorts of speeds. When my father-in-law came to visit, his Dell laptop was getting similar speeds, and I also brought a Dell laptop home from work that was having similar speeds.
I have gone through ASUS customer support, but have been going back and forth with them since August of 24, responding to them or asking for an update every few weeks. Their most recent communication said they didn't find any anomalies, and asked me to download openspeedtest on a wired device and the laptop (after providing speed test results from both speedtest.net and fast.com), as well as saying there have been reports of the wireless cards in the Omen 16 having slow internet and providing reddit and forum titles, but not acknowledging the 2 other Dell devices I have mentioned.
So, what am I doing wrong?
Some info:
ZenWifi AX6600 XT-8 HW Ver.: 2.0
Wireless is set to Tri-Band Smart Connect with the bands 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz-1, 5 GHz-2
There is also 5 GHz-2 (Backhaul) with AIMesh set to "Use as both backhaul and fronthaul connection"
Firmware is up to date based off the backend suggestion - Both units on Version 3.0.0.4.388_24684-g1e332b0
QoS is off
If there's any other info you need, please let me know.
