AX86U loosing web interface

Bananski

New Around Here
Hello All,

I use AX86U for more than an year now and suddenly few days ago the web interface was not accessible,
Tried to reach it from different devices, no success.
Tried rebooting and power cycling it, no change.
Even the Asus router app was not detecting it.
Ping to the router worked fine.
Did a factory reset (hold reset switch for 5 seconds) and the GUI worked again, I did set up the router from scratch and start using it again and applied the latest FW (3.0.0.4.388_24243).

Today, again the web interface is not accessible and reboot is not helping, same situation as before.

I am using the Asus router app (android) and have the remote access enabled to be able to do WOL and some network monitoring remotely. I know opening the remote access is not the smartest thing...

Has anyone experienced anything similar with this router or other ASUS router and what was the cure?
Can it be that its getting hacked and the GUI disabled?
Or just defective hardware or maybe FW bug?

Thank you for your time reading this!

Remote access is not recommended. Router admin by wired PC is my preference for no glitches (and disconnect everything else from the router).

Given remote access and now no access, I'd Hard Reset and reconfigure from scratch. And keep remote access disabled.

Did another factory reset, GUI works now, this time left remote access disabled.

Will put an update in few weeks if the issue will re-occur.

Two weeks later with remote access disabled, the web interface works fine.
It could be that its being hacked, but cannot confirm...
WireGuard VPN works great, I can recommend it.

Cheers!
