New Around Here
Hello SNBers,

Gotta say I love the site. I was able to do almost all my research and get my network/server going using the valuable information here. Had a quick question and I wasn't sure whether to start here or the Synology subforum so here goes.

I recently purchased a Syno DS-411+ and have been setting it up at home as file storage and media server. I am trying to configure it so that as I add music or photos to my main desktop it will "backup" or mirror to the NAS and then I can point the streamers (Laptops, Sonos, WDTV, Xbox360) to the NAS for data. I initially tried using the Synology Disk Replicator but the problem with that is it sets the files up using a specific folder structure and I keep having to retell the devices where the files are.

Didn't know if there was a way to do this. I have read about rsync but didn't know if that was going to be tough to configure.

Thanks in advance for the advice

There are any number of client backup apps out there that will do what you want. I'm pretty happy with SyncBackSE. Doesn't load down my system when it runs and it works reliably without muss or fuss.

Sorry it's been a while but just wanted to say thanks for the replies. The syncback program works flawlessly.

And Tim, I don't know how you manage to be in every post but I feel like you are either answering every question or pointing someone towards an answer. Not sure how you have the time but I just wanted to say thanks.

..and see you in the syno subcategory shortly (hahaha)

Thanks for the kind words. But its the community of knowledgeable people who generously contribute their time and knowledge here that really deserve the thanks.
