New Around Here
Howdy all,

After hours and hours of research I've not come very far. I'm fairly tech savvy and decent with UNIX but I just can't seem to get my head around VPN networking.

I'd like to do the following:

1. Use hidemyass VPN via OPENvpn/PPTP on my home router to encrypt traffic and change my IP address.

2. set up a vpn on my home network that would allow me to tunnel into my home network/vpn when I am off site. I'd like to do this by going through my ISP provided IP address not the one provided by hidemyass.

Is this feasible?

Hi

First of all when using the word provider then it automatically disqualify it as a VPN. A VPN is a secure tunnel to extends ones private network over the internet where you will still have that secure way that you would get in private network.

HidemyAss bobsVPN jimsVPN their all connectivity services. They hide your ip that's it.

OpenVPN was created to make Ipsec and ssl easy because Ipsec was difficult to setup and ssl was mostly application based. OpenVPN fixed that.
You can use OpenVPN and tunnel a way straight to your home or other offices.
You need to create a key for the client and for the server side so to speak. You don't need a provider in the middle. OpenVPN does the encryption on your pc. You just need to setup the config files.
