Cannot activate DSL/VDSL WAN configuration

Hi guys,

I bought recently an ASUS DSL AC88U modem/router and I wanted to configure it for my ADSL/VDSL connection (no fiber optics for me for the moment). When I switched it on, all the LEDs were lit, then the DSL and Internet LEDs stopped lighting up. On the initial configuration, my country is not in the list of countries and ISPs. I continued by choosing VDSL in PPOE, entered the identifiers and the device tried to validate the information but failed. Continuing, I noticed that the WAN had no IP address and that the DSL/VDSL configurations were inactive while the ETHERNET WAN configuration was active (as you can see in screenshots). I updated the firmware, performed the reset but found no way of activating the DSL/VDSL configuration, it remained activated on the ETHERNET WAN and the DSL and Internet LEDs were still off.

What should I do to solve this problem please ?

Thank you in advance.

To be sure:
a) Do you have any devices upstream of your modem, or is it only the line from your ISP?
b) When ETHERNET WAN is active, do you have Internet connectivity?

First of all, thank you for your reply.

a) It's only my ISP's line

b) No, there's no Internet connectivity on the WAN ETHERNET because I'm not connected to the WAN port and both LEDs (DSL and INTERNET) are always off. I've just connected my RJ11 cable from the telephone line to the modem's DSL port, added the required WAN VDSL information but no result. The WAN ADSL/VDSL is still inactive and the ETHERNET WAN still active even without entering any information.

On the WAN page you'll need to create a PVC setting using your ISPs suggested VCI, VCP, VLAN settings, and also enter the service username and password that the ISP has given you for the connection.
The fly in the ointment could be that xDSL delivery can vary by country. So the version of the DSL-AC88U needs to be the correct one for the phone system in your specific country.

Thank you for your reply.

For your information, I already own an ASUS DSL AC68U and I had no trouble configuring the WAN on it and everything worked without a hitch. I wanted to upgrade the modem because the AC68U was starting to show signs of instability.

Regarding your question, I obviously configured the WAN as usual with all the necessary information, but the WAN couldn't get an IP address to activate internet connectivity...

I mentioned it because the images you posted show "no data in table" where the PVC summary should be!

If your old ASUS modem still connects w/o issue, then I'd think the only thing to do is contact ASUS or return it. Your country not being listed is a red flag for me, since it is in the old modem, right? (Unless the countries list is just for convenience - I don't know.)

My country was not also in the AC68U list, but it works perfectly. I'm beginning to think that the AC88U I bought was exclusively configured just for a fiber-optic WAN Ethernet connection...
