New Around Here
Hi folks,

I got a weird error I've never seen before, mybe you could help.

First of all, I flashed to the merlin-FW when I got the asus out of the box a few weeks ago
It definitely was a 374 build, not sure which revision, maybe 32.2 (?)
Everything worked fine...

Now, a few weeks later I want to fiddle with the config,
but now if I try to open the webinterface with http:/192.168.1.1 i got from chrome:

ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

webUI also does not open in IE, firefox from windows;
links, seamonkey from linux on different machine nor dolphin, android browser from mobile phone.

With a bit googeling I found the same error on the asus-forums,
there it was a problem when activating SSL for the webinterface. link

I never activated SSL, calling the page with https://192.168.1.1:8443 or std-port 443 doesn't work either.
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
because it is not activated.

After several reboots the problem stays still the same.

I cannot access the router through webUI.
Thoug I can ping it, I can go to the webinterface of 192.168.0.1 which is my modem (accessible through the router), port forwarding works like I configured it, telnet and SSH access are still working.
But no WebUI.

I don't want to reset the router with the hard button on the back at this point, because I am not sure it will work after and I could restore my backup-configs?

Do you have any idea what this problem could be?

thanks a lot to the community, your're great! ;)

best regards!

Howdy,
Power off your router, power off your computer.

Power on the router, power on your computer.

connect to your router with IE

when you are done, LOGOUT of your router.

Hi folks,

thanks fpr reply!

Using nod32 perhaps?
--
bc

you mean Mod 32 (the build) or something else?

I did power off modem, router and PC.
Restarted everything but IE also does not display the webinterface...

any other suggestions?

thanks a lot!

Edit: got it!

because of your hint I tried to set the IP of my computer back to the one I had when flashing and configuring the asus.
It is only by accident that I know the IP by now which I got first time from the asus-DHCP.

So if I set a static 192.168.1.17 on the host the access to 192.168.1.1 works flawlessy. (!!)

BUT:
Even if I log out on the webinterface, setting IP back to dynamical, repower the asus so I get .10
...no login is possible.
Same error as before.
login only works with IP 192.168.1.17

???
what is the problem here?

I got a network with rather complicated relations between the hosts, so changing the IP of this one would lead to an amount of configs to all the other machines.

I think a session timeout of say 20min would be ENOUGH security for home users,
this you-cannot-log-in-anymore-forever-policy sucks, though my ISP has the same on its modem.
but there a power cycle is enough to get it back fully working...

thank you!

edit2: FOUND IT!

under "administration" the "Only allow specific IP"-option has been set, so THERE was the problem. :)

thank you all and sorry for bothering! ;)

Thank you so much! Your post helped me to solve the problem as well!

I had precisely the same trouble: after more than 1 year without any problem, for no apparent reason, I was no longer able to get into rt-n16 setup page. I've tried all basic things, but only setting up manually the ORIGINAL ip address assigned by Asus RT-N16 original firmware solved the problem...

P.-S.: And, yes, I had as well under "administration" tab the "Only allow specific IP" option set to yes...
