Can't access anything behind router

zetachi

New Around Here
Running Merlin build 374.42 on RT-AC68U. Everything within the network works fine but if I try and access my WHS, VNC clients or the Web GUI from outside my network I can't get through.

I'm running No-IP service and DUC client see my external IP and is forwarding to my DNS name. If I try Port checker the connection times out. I've changed the firmware, re-booted, turned off the firewall, changed ports. The VNC clients are all forwarded correctly but when I test I get
Connection test failed.

Your server appears to be behind a NAT router with IP address 108.182.73.57. You will need to configure that router to forward port 5901 to this computer before you will be able to connect to your server over the Internet.

At this point I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Zetachi

You need to ensure that your modem isn't also working as a router, otherwise it will firewall all incoming connections before they even reach the Asus router.

The asus replaced my dlink and everything was working fine regarding remotely accessing my network. The time Warner modem was set to bridge mode when it was installed.

So the message i get when trying to connect to the router from external is

Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-AC68U.
To access the settings of RT-AC68U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number.

Clear your browser cache and try again.

How would clearing my browser cache fix VNC not connecting? Different app/not browser based. Anyway cleared and same issue.

This has to be either config issue/firmware or something I'm missing. When I first got the router I was able to connect. Not sure if that was on ASUS or Merlin firmware. Might need to factory re-set but loath to do that and need to reconfigure everything again.

Well, the error you describe last has nothing to do with VNC.
Search the forum for "Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh".

Sorry If i came off snippy, just really frustrated :( but I do appreciate the help.

Anywho

the issue is more broad then just the remote Web GUI as I can't access my WHS, VNC clients or the Web GUI from outside my network.

This message is served when the routers http server cannot answer. So you could issue a service restart_httpd or reboot the router.

Also, you get that message from your router, which means you get at least that far.

Solved.... Somehow, either by accident or on purpose my twc modem/router got switched out of bridge mode so it was acting as a router and only providing the Asus with a lanip. I set it back and all appears to be working. Won't know for positive but I was able to connect using my phone over 4g

Confirmed today. Was able to connect from work. Woo Hoo.

Wanted to say thanks to all those that tried to help. And hope my thread helps someone that may have same issues.
Here is the link with instructions
