New Around Here
Hi, I've been trying to setup a guest network on a RT-AX3000 router. I've followed the documentation and I've enabled both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands (same SSID). The issue is that when any type of security is enabled, no devices can connect to the guest networks. If I set the security type to "Open System", I can connect.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? I've tried searching but did not find anything helpful.

As a troubleshooting step, create separate and unique SSID's for each of the guest network WiFi bands.
And as a further troubleshooting step, ensure the password for each SSID is only letters and numbers, avoid using special characters.

Might help others if you post screen captures of your Guest Network settings with sensitive information redacted.

OK, so it has to do with the password on the WPA2/WPA3-Private Auth method. If I use "12345678" or "A2345678", it works. I can also use more than 9 characters. However, as soon as I put in a more complex password, it only works if the password is only 8 characters.

For a 'complex' WiFi password, I pick a phrase like:

the grass is always greener on the other side

Extract the first characters:

tgiagotos

And then insert the year in a couple of places, like after the t:

t2024giagot2024os

Easy to remember. Strong enough. Acceptable characters. Self-dated.
