Can't install merlin in my AC68U

New Around Here
Hello everyone,

I am new here, so I don't know if this issue has benn faced, but I haven't found a solution. I've just bought an RT-AC68U and updated the firm (official Asus). But when I realized the router does not have a static arp table, I searched the Internet and found information about Merlin. I downloaded version 382.1_2, but it is impossible to install the firmware. I have rebooted the router, reseted to defaults ... And there is always an error: "The firmware update failed, this problem may be caused by an incorrect image or an incorrect transmission. Check the firm version and try again". I have downloaded it again, and then v382.1_0... And nothing works. Does anybody know what's wrong?

Welcome to the forum.

Hang on a minute: I’m not sure the 382 Version is ready yet for the RT-AC68U. EDIT: I checked, and it is

You might therefore want to try:

“You need to flash with an intermediate Fw for the partition size . Remove all usb devices hooked, reboot, flash with 378.55(to upgrade CFE version)and then flash with 380.68_2”

And then try with the 382 firmware instead of the 380.68_2.

And tell us if that solves it. You will get it going one way or the other, I’m sure of that.

Bingo!! Numbers were dancing in my mind. 382 is ready for AC86U, not AC68U.:rolleyes: Thank you!!

But 382 is ready for the AC68U as well:

“Devices supported on the new generation/current branch (382.xx and newer):

  • RT-AC66U_B1 (use the RT-AC68U firmware)
  • RT-AC56U
  • RT-AC68U, RT-AC68P, RT-AC68UF (including HW revision C1 and E1)”

So you’ve got the RT-AC86U? Have you got it up and running yet?

“I downloaded version 382.1_2,”

So you’ve got the RT-AC68U, then was it a beta version you tried to install? Looking at the Merlin downloads page, the only 382/383 version available for your router is, currently, 384.3-Beta3.

I downloaded 382.1_2 stable, thinking it was useful in my AC68U. When you told me it wasn't, I downloaded the 380.69_2. Installed it and it's all working fine.
