Can't update RT-AC66U to Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4_374.38_2

I'm currently running Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.374.34_2. I just tried to update to 3.0.0.4_374.38_2 twice; however, whenever it finishes, and I reboot it, it still shows version 3.0.0.4.374.34_2.

I've never had a problem upgrading until now. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Try these steps;

Unplug any USB devices. Unplug all Ethernet cables except for the one going to the computer doing the update.

Turn off the router (not simply a reboot) for a couple of minutes (pull the plug).

Turn on router and let it idle for a few minutes (~5).

Install new firmware.

If the above doesn't work, at the turn on the router step; do a reset to defaults (via web gui).

Now, the firmware should install properly.

At this point a reset to defaults is suggested and manually entering any settings. Also, use new ssid's for each band or delete or 'forget this connection' on each device and re-associate each one again.

I was able to update the firmware by simply unplugging all other devices. Not sure why that would make a difference.

Thanks!

The difference is probably in the RAM that was freed by not running those additional devices and services.
