It doesn't seems Router pricing has gone down. They stays the same and get replaced by newer variants which uses either Mediatek or Qualcomm, both lacking third party options.
The ASUS AC56U was the best I could before, but that has been discontinued in many places around the world and replaced with a cut down version, Single Core AC56S, which both Tomato and Merlin build don't support. ( Sigh )
